HAMPTON, Va. – The visiting High Point Panthers took a 3-0 win over Hampton on Friday night in Big South Conference volleyball action winning 25-14, 25-18, 25-19 at Holland Hall.

High Point jumped out to an early 5-1 lead in the first set but Hampton responded with a 9-5 run to tie the game at 10 after a ball handling error.  A service ace by Brooklyn Irvin tied the match at 12 and a kill by Isis Black evened it at 13, but the Panthers closed the set on a 12-1 run as a service ace by Sarah Malone gave High Point the opening set.

The second set saw High Point score the first seven points, though Hampton responded with a 10-3 run to tie the game at 10 on a service ace by Leanna Caldwell.  Hampton pulled to 17-16 later in the game, but High Point ran off eight of the last 10 points to win 25-18.

Hampton got to within a point in the third set on a Margaret Daramola kill for an 11-10 deficit, but High Point kept them at bay the remainder of the game.

Gabby Calloway had five kills and 15 digs to lead Hampton, while Clara Smith added four kills.  Hampton returns to action on Saturday at 4pm hosting N.C. A&T.
