Nylah Young each scored 13 points, while junior
Shawn Mills had 10 and a team-high eight rebounds each as Hampton dropped a 79-55 decision to High Point starting a two-game series on Friday afternoon.
The hosts scored the first six points of the game as Hampton cut the deficit to 6-4 on a Young layup with 3:50 left in the quarter. High Point went on a 9-2 spurt to lead 15-6 on a free throw by Cydney Johnson with 64 seconds on the clock.Â
In the second, High Point scored the first 12 points of the quarter before a pair of Davis free throws stopped the drought as Hampton trailed 30-11 with 5:25 left in the half. A pair of Mills free throws with 3:22 left pulled Hampton to 70-52 which was as close as they got in the second half.
Young added six rebounds and three steals to go with her 13 points, while Davis had four rebounds, four assists and four steals. The same teams will close out the Big South series on Saturday afternoon at 2 pm.
