HAMPTON, Va. -- A school-record 50 student-athletes were recognized at the 2021 Chi Alpha Sigma Virtual Ceremony on Wednesday night. Six earned honors for still meeting the requirements for the organization, while 44 were inducted into the honor society.
"In the most challenging of academic years, to have 50 student-athletes honored and inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma is a testament to the resiliency and determination of our young men and women," said Hampton University President Dr. William R. Harvey. "I extend my warmest congratulations to all of the honorees."
It's quite impressive and inspiring to see 50 student-athletes being recognized by Chi Alpha Sigma for their academic progress," said Hampton University Chancellor and Provost Dr. JoAnn Haysbert. "For the largest class of inductees in school history to be honored during a virtual school year, I congratulate not only the student-athletes, but their families along with the academic and athletic staffs."
Hampton University is the Virginia Delta Chapter of the National College Athlete Honor Society (NCAHS), Chi Alpha Sigma. NCAHS differs from existing organizations in that it will honor Junior and Senior student-athletes who have maintained a grade point average of at least 3.4 and have earned a varsity letter.Â
The honor society promotes good citizenship, moral character, and leadership. The watchwords of the society are the 4 A's Athletics, Academics, Achievement, and Attitude.Â
