NORFOLK, Va. -- The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference announced its all-time team for women's basketball on Monday in conjunction with the 50
th anniversary of the conference and seven former Lady Pirates made the honor list.
Keiara Avant, Alyssa Bennett, LaShondra Dixon. Nicole Hamilton, Jericka Jenkins, Quanneisha Perry and
Malia Tate-DeFreitas were all recognized by the conference as part of the 50 greatest players in conference history. To be eligible, players must have been named to one of the following: First Team All-MEAC, MEAC Player of the Year, All-America or a MEAC Hall of Fame inductee.Â
Avant saw her scoring totals increase throughout her career and took off as a senior. She averaged 16.3 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game en route to first team All-MEAC and MEAC Player of the Year honors. She has two of the top 10 single season rebound totals in the NCAA Division I era topped by her 308 as a senior.
Bennett made quite a dent into the record book in her three years as she averaged 17.7 points, 9.4 rebounds and just under two steals per game as a senior. She finished her career ninth in the NCAA D1 era career points with 1,109 points and sixth in rebounds with 664 in 91 games. She was a two-time MEAC Defensive Player of the Year (2013, 2014) and a 2014 First Team All-MEAC pick.
Dixon played in the beginning of Hampton's MEAC tenure and finished her career ranked third on Hampton's all-time scoring list with 1,967 points, second in career free throw percentage (.755) and fifth in steals (277). She was a two-time first team All-MEAC selection (2002, 2003) and selected into the MEAC Hall of Fame in 2016.
Hamilton averaged 10.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and over three assists per game in her career that saw her earn two-time First Team All-MEAC honors in 2013 and 2014. She finished her career ranked second in the NCAA Division I era in blocks (145), fifth in assists (345) and eighth in career points (1,112). Her 73 blocked shots as a senior is the second most in a season in the NCAA Division I era.
Jenkins is the only Hampton Lady Pirate to earn Associated Press All-American honors pulling that feat as a junior when she averaged 13.4 points, 3.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists per game. She nearly increased all those numbers as a senior averaging 13.8 points, 7.1 assists and 2.7 rebounds per game. Her 1,385 points ranks fourth in the NCAA Division I era and she holds two of the three top totals in single season assists. Jenkins was a two-time First Team All-MEAC in 2011 and 2012.
Perry was a force inside for the Lady Pirates averaging nearly 13 points, 9.1 rebounds and 3.1 blocks per game her last two seasons. Her 1,200 career points ranks her seventh in the NCAA Division I era, while her 937 rebounds is best in the NCAA Division I era and fourth best in school history. She was a two-time MEAC Defensive Player of the Year (2010, 2011) and a 2010 First Team All-MEAC selection.
Tate-DeFreitas has her name firmly in the record books as one of the most prolific scorers in school history. She finished her career with 2.214 points, which is second most in school history and tops in the NCAA Division I era and is in the top three in many categories. A knee injury shortened her senior season, but her previous two were impressive averaging 21 points per game en route to back-to-back MEAC Player of the Year and First Team awards in 2015 and 2016. Tate-DeFreitas also was a MEAC Rookie of the Year in 2014.
