Elon quarterback Matthew McKay completed 16-of-19 passes for 199 yards and two scores and running back Jalen Hampton rushed for 177 yards and three scores as Elon (8-3, 6-3) beat Hampton (4-6, 1-6) before 1,086 fans at Armstrong Stadium.

Despite Elon's one-two punch, the Pirates trailed by one four, 21-17 at halftime. Elon took the opening kickoff and marked 75 yards culminating in a one-yard scoring run by Jalen Hampton to go ahead 7-0. Hampton's Jarrett Powell caught a 27-yard TD pass from Christopher Zellous midway through the first quarter to tie the score.

Axel Perez kicked a 36-yard field goal between two Elon TDs before a Pirate TD pass from Zellous to Jadakis Bonds made it 21-17 at the half.

The Phoenix pulled away in the third quarter with a pair of scores and the teams traded fourth quarter touchdowns.
