ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The Hampton Lady Pirates extend their win streak to two, taking down UNC Asheville 75-58 Thursday in Big South conference play.
Hampton had five players score double-figure points.
Shawn Mills scored a career-high 18 points (6-8 FG) and grabbed seven rebounds in the win.
Nylah Young finished with 15 points and four rebounds.
Madison Buford (3-3 3PT) scored 13 points.
Victoria Mason (3-3 FG) scored 12 points and
Jermany Mapp scored 11 points off the bench for the Lady Pirates.
The Lady Pirates opened the game on a scoring run, which extended the entire first quarter, giving them a 20-9 lead heading into the second quarter. The 34-15 run, which extended into the second quarter, lasted a total of 14:43 to open the game. The Lady Pirates would extend their lead by as many as 18 points as they cruised into halftime leading 38-24.
The Bulldogs managed to whittle the Lady Pirate lead down to eight points within the first three minutes of the third quarter. However, UNC Asheville stood no match against the high-powered Hampton offense. Hampton shot 48.9 percent from the field and 50 percent from three-point range. Hampton also managed 25 free throw makes in the game and extended their lead to as many as 21 points as they cruised to victory.
Hampton is set to rematch UNC Asheville at home on Saturday, February 12 at 3:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
