HAMPTON, VA – The Lady Pirates begin the Hampton Classic 2-0, improve to 5-1 on the season overall
In the first game, Hampton jumped out to an early lead against Central Connecticut State and never looked back as the Pirates won 7-4.
Emily Workman (W, 3-0) picked up five strikeouts as she took her third win of the season.
The Pirates totaled three runs in the bottom of the first inning, following a bases-clearing double by
Kiaya Jeusi. In the third inning, both teams would trade runs score, as Hampton maintained their three-run lead, 4-1. The Blue Devils would trim the deficit to 4-3 in the top of the fourth inning, however, the Pirates would put the finishing touches on the game in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Jada Evans and
Tiera Washington would all pick up RBIs in the inning, helping secure the win in the first game of the double header.
In game two, a rematch against Central Connecticut State, the Pirates would once again take the victory, winning 9-5.
Jordyn Scott (W, 1-0) picks up her first win of the season after pitching five and one thirds innings.
The Blue Devils struck first, plating a run in the top of the first inning, giving them a 1-0 lead. It would not take the Lady Pirates long to respond, as they posted a five-fun second inning.
Jada Evans scored on a bases-loaded walk.
Mo'ne Davis bunted home a runner.
Jordyn Scott singled, scoring two more runners.
Emily Kepple capped of the inning, scoring a runner via a sacrifice fly.
Following a run scored by the Blue Devils, in the bottom of the third, Hampton added two more runs via back-to-back bases loaded walks, giving them a 7-2 lead.
Emily Kepple put the game away following a two-run homerun in the bottom of the fifth inning, giving the Pirates their eight and ninth runs of the game. The Lady Pirates' offense proved to be too much as they went on to win their second game of the day.
The Lady Pirates enter day two of the Hampton Classic on Saturday, February 19 as they take the field against St.Bonaventure at 11 a.m. and Central Connecticut State at 3 p.m.
