Box Score 2 Norfolk,VA.- Although the Pirates put up a tough fight in game one, HU could not hold off the Spartans, dropping the doubleheader to the Spartans (6-5, 5-0).
Hampton drops to a 10-15 overall record, 1-2 in conference play.
Game 1 Final: Hampton 5 Norfolk State 6
How It Happened:
- The day got off to a slow start for both teams, however Hampton's Mo'Ne Davis (Philadelphia, PA) scored the first run at the top of the fourth inning on a wild pitch. (1-0)
- The Spartans answered back taking the lead at the bottom of the fourth with two runs scored by Gunkin who stole home and Ruiz on a fielding error. (1-2)
- That didn't stop Hampton, with all bases loaded from a passed ball and two throwing errors Davis, Lauryn Brooks (Bowie, MD), and Samyah Richardson (Chesapeake, VA) all scored to jump out in front of the Spartans. ( 4-2)
- Kennedi Bedell (Columbus, GA) continued the Pirates lead in the top of the seventh with a scored run. (5-2)
- The Spartans Losefa homered to center field giving Norfolk State the three runs nsu needed to tie the game. (5-5)
- In the bottom of the eigth inning Taylor placed on second for the Spartans and scored the final run of the game. (5-6)
Game 2 Final: Hampton 0 Norfolk State 5
How It Happened:
- Norfolk State came out strong in the first inning scoring three runs on a single to the left field and fielding error.(0-3)
- Hampton tried to pull through but couldn't seem to score a run.
- The Spartans scored two runs at the bottom of the fourth inning carrying them through to take the win.(0-5)
The Pirates return to action on Saturday, March 19, 2022 for a doubleheader at Presbyterian. The games are set for noon and 2 PM.
