HAMPTON, Va. -- After a thrilling battle against the only two HBCU's in the CAA conference, Hampton dropped a 79-67 decision to N.C. A&T during the MLK Monday game.
Â
Starting off with high momentum, Aggie player Marcus Watson came down with a dunk, assisted by Kam Woods. However, the favor was soon returned as
Marquis Godwin came down with a jumper, to even out the score.
Â
This energy kept up during most of the first half, but free throws mainly consumed the scoreboard, leaving the score at 42-30, with the guests in the lead. Jeremy Robinson added 11 points and Marcus Watson had seven rebounds to lead N.C. A&T.
Â
Coming off halftime, the Pirates came back prepared for a comeback, buckling down on their perimeter shots.
Â
Nonetheless, the tremendous effort put forth by the Pirates wasn't enough to secure the win. After ending on a couple jumpers and layups, the Pirates watched the clock rundown in the Aggie's possession, ending this CAA historical game.
Â
Jordan Nesbitt led in points with 18, while
Kyrese Mullen led in rebounds with 17. Raymond Bethea Jr. scored a career-high 21 points and had 10 rebounds for the Pirates. In spite of the ending score, Pirates lead in free throws with a percentage of 82.6%, with the Aggie's at 58.3% and an edge in offensive rebounds with 19 to the Aggie's 7.
