Lady Pirates Fall to Campbell on Senior Day

NORFOLK, Va. (Oct. 15, 2023) ... The Hampton University women's soccer team honored eight seniors this afternoon before the match against Campbell. However, the Camels would prevail scoring three goals in both halves. With CU controlling possession, Campbell fired off a total of 29 shots.

How it Happened

Senior Olexia Mitchell made her first appearance of the season in goal today. Mitchell faced a total of 17 shots on goal and made 11 saves. She would be tested early on but withstood the challenge producing two saves in the opening minutes of the match.

Campbell struck first in the 13th minute with a goal by Cazzi Norgen. The Lady Pirates after allowing the early goal seemed to play with more focus. While they were able to move the ball in CU's half they were unable to produce any shots. With 15 minutes remaining in the half, the Camels scored again making it 2-0. Before the end of the first half, Campbell found the back of the net once more.

Coming out of the half, Hampton was still searching for their first goal of the contest. The Lady Pirates would still have success pushing the ball down the field along the sidelines. After a foul committed by HU, Campbell was able to put relentless pressure on goalkeeper Olexia Mitchell. With CU's offense continuing to have success they found the back of the net in the 58th minute.

Freshman Sanaa Perry with her speed was able to break free and fire a shot towards the goal. However, the Lady Pirates' first chance of the half would be corralled by the Camel's goalkeeper. Later on in the match, Evan Nicole-Whitaker broke away from CU's back line. Nicole-Whitaker's opportunity just missed the goal wide right.

Before the end of the contest, Campbell scored two more times to make it 6-0. Mattie Edozie received a yellow card in the 81st minute. Down the stretch, Jada Blackmon saw action for the first time this season.
