Hampton Women’s Soccer Ends 2023 Season With a Loss

Box Score PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Oct. 22, 2023) … Hampton University women's soccer ended the season with a road match against Drexel. While the Lady Pirates' offense was quiet in the first half, HU would produce three shots in the second half. However, Hampton would fall to the Dragons 8-1.

In the opening minutes, both sides struggled offensively. Early on the Lady Pirates would commit three early fouls putting pressure on Olexia Mitchell early. Mitchell handled the early pressure from the Dragons until the tenth minute. With a cross inside the box finding Drexel's Charlotte Saville, HU found themselves trailing 1-0.

During the 29th minute of the match, Makayla Wade produced the Lady Pirates' first shot of the match. Wade was able to create separation outside the penalty box. The shot was tracking to the top left corner of the goal but, DU's goalkeeper would be there to make the save. Before the end of the half, Drexel found the back of the net two more times increasing their advantage to three.

Coming out of the half Drexel scored three goals in the span of 30 minutes. The Lady Pirates during the 78th minute got on the board with a goal of their own. Freshman Mattie Edozie had a beautiful strike from 20 yards out. She was able to create her own space and placed it out of the Dragons goalkeeper's reach.

Before the end of the match, Drexel scored two more times. The Lady Pirates finished the match with six shots and three shots on goal. Mattie Edozie led Hampton in shots this afternoon with three.
