Hampton Women’s Soccer Hosts Hofstra in Mid-Week Match

Hampton, Va. (Oct. 3, 2023) … Hampton University women's soccer hosts the Hofstra Pride in a mid-week Coastal Athletic Association match. Thursday's match is set to begin at 11:00 AM and will end HU's stretch of consecutive home contests

A Look at Your Lady Pirates

In their last time out they suffered a 3-0 loss to the first-place team in the CAA standings Towson. The three goals that were scored against Lady Pirates would be their fewest goals allowed since the match against Mount St. Mary's. For most of the second half, Hampton had to play a man down due to Mattie Edozie picking up a red card. Goalkeeper Alexis Deveaux would make history by setting the total saves single-season record.

For most of conference play Lailah Daniel, Makayla Wade, Keri Geter, and Taylor Oliver have consistently been in the starting lineup for HU. They all have also accumulated the most minutes on the team. Maya Martir leads the Lady Pirates this season in shots on goal. However, the senior is still searching for her first goal of the 2023 season. 

Scouting The Pride

Hofstra enters the match with a (8-3-1) overall record and a (5-1-1) record in the CAA. The Pride currently sits second in the Coastal Athletic Association standings with 16 points. HU is coached by Simon Riddiough who enters his 18th season under the helm. Since taking over the head coaching position in 2005 Riddiough has not had a losing season. He has guided Hofstra to seven CAA championships along with winning the league's title game on three separate occasions.

So far this season Wiktoria Fronc has led the Pride in goals with four. The sophomore from London, England also leads Hofstra in assists with three. Mathilde Braithwaite and Thorhildur Thorhallsdottir are close behind with two. While the Pride are only averaging over a goal a game, they are only allowing .92 goals per match.
