Hampton Women’s Soccer Hit The Road to Face William & Mary

HAMPTON, VA. - Hampton University women's soccer hits the road to face CAA foe William & Mary. Sunday's match will mark the second-ever meeting between the Lady Pirates and the Tribe. 

A Look at Your Lady Pirates

In their last time out, Hampton fell to Hofstra 4-1 who was second in the Coastal Athletic Association standings. For the the second this season the Lady Pirates committed fewer fouls than their opponent. In the 79th minute, HU would find the back of the net with a goal from Patricia Wharton. Wharton's goal would be her first of the 2023 season and the second of her career. Her first career goal came against an away match against Regent.

For seven consecutive weeks, sophomore Alexis Deveaux has led the NCAA in total saves. Deveaux with four matches remaining currently has the previous HU single-season record beat by 14 saves. In the Lady Pirates last time out she produced nine saves. The Fort Lauderdale, Fla. native, has recorded nine or more saves in nine contests this season. In three consecutive matches, Senior Lailah Daniel has not missed a minute of action.

Scouting the Tribe

William & Mary enter Sunday's match with (7-1-5) record overall and is (4-1-2) in the conference.  The Tribe where able to defeat Hofstra on the road and produced a draw against perineal power Monmouth during the 2023 campaign. W&M is coached by Julie Shackford who enters her sixth season with the program. The 30-year veteran has recorded over 250 wins having successful stints at Carnegie Melon and Princeton.

The Tribe's top goal scorer this season has been Ivey Crain with four goals. Crain was the CAA Freshman of the Year and a First-Team selection scoring nine goals during the 2022 season. Freshman Lindsay Wilson has made an immediate impact for William & Mary producing a team-high two assists.  More than ten different student-athletes have recorded an assist this season for the Tribe.
