PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Nov. 7, 2023) … Hampton (0-1) fell to Providence (1-0) in the season-opening contest for both teams by a score of 76-46. The homestanding Friars scored the first eight points of the game and led, 24-10, at the end of the first quarter. Friar Olivia Olsen scored eight points in the opening period and finished the night with a game-high 26 points.
Camryn Hill led the Lady Pirates with 22 points and teammate
Amyah Reaves scored 15 points and grabbed a team-high six rebounds to lead the way for Hampton.
Providence's strong play continued in the second quarter as the lead grew to 19, 39-20. Providence shot 48 percent from the field (12-25) while holding Hampton to just 29 percent (9-31) shooting from the game's first in the first two quarters.
The Friar's lead grew to 22, 61-39, after three quarters before outscoring Hampton, 15-12, in the game's final 10 minutes.
The Friars outrebounded the Lady Pirates 41-24 in the contest and blocked six Hampton shots. In addition to Olsen, the Friars got 21 points Grace Elosa and Kylee Sheppard doled out eight assists.
Hampton plays at North Carolina on Tuesday, Nov. 15 in an 11:00 a.m. tipoff.
