George Washington Slips Past Lady Pirates 46-40

Washington, D.C. (Dec. 16, 2023) … Hampton (0-8) played its best game of the season with its trademark defense before falling to George Washington (6-5) before 135 fans at the Smith Center in Washington, D.C.

Hampton's tough-as-nails defense kept the Lady Pirates in the game throughout. The Revolutionaries led 17-9 after the first quarter. George Washington's Essence Brown scored eight of her game-high 18 points in the first quarter to stake the Revolutionaries to the lead.

Hampton's tough-as-mails defense turned the tide in the second quarter outscoring the Revolutionaries 15-7, to go into halftime with the score tied, 24-24. Hill led the way with six of her 14 team-high points in the second quarter. The Lady Pirates forced 10 second-quarter turnovers and held George Washington to just 25 percent shooting from the field.

While the Lady Pirate defense held George Washington to just 22 points in the second half, Hampton was able to hit just four field goals in the second half and shot 19 percent from the field in the final half. George Washington outscored the Lady {Pirates, 10-6, in the third quarter and had a 12-10 advantage in the final period.

The game marked the debut of Janae Dublin. The 6-2 transfer from Georgia State finished with six points five steals and four rebounds. She averaged 5.9 points per game last season for the Panthers.

Hampton's young starting line-up consisted of newcomer Dublin, a pair of freshmen (Le'Asia Foreman and Arlisha Boston).

The Lady Pirates host St. Peter's at 2:00 p.m. on Dec. 21 at the Convocation Center. It marks just the second home game of the season for Hampton and the only home game in the month of December for the team.
