Hampton Women’s Soccer Begins Road Trip With a Loss

Box Score Washington, D.C. (August 24, 2023)... Hampton University women's soccer lost their first game of the road trip to Howard 7-0. While Hampton tied a season-high shots on goal total, the Bison controlled possession for most of the match.

What Happened

While Howard produced the first shot of the night, the Lady Pirates constructed a strong chance in the fourth minute of the match. Hampton's wingers were able to find Madisyn Strange and Mattie Edozie in front of the goal. Edozie would find Strange to create a one-on-one with the keeper. With two incredible saves by Howard's Trinty Knox, the contest remained scoreless.

Shorty after Strange's back-to-back shots on goal, the Bison found the back of the net twice in a span of five minutes. The Lady Pirates created three more shots towards the end of the half. Hampton's chances would be limited since Howard held a possession advantage during most of the first half.

HU's offensive woes continued coming out of the half. With the Bison continuing to control possession, Hampton only was able to get off two shots. Both chances came towards the final 15 minutes of the half. Before the final horn rang, Howard found the back of the net four more times.

Once again Hampton found themselves in a physical match with 20 fouls being called. Both sides combined for a total of five bookings in tonight's match. HU picked up four yellow cards with Maya Martir, Leah Johnson, Taylor Oliver, and Mattie Edozie all receiving one. Howard's lone yellow card of the match came in the 33rd minute.
