Hampton Women’s Soccer Return Home to Host Monmouth

HAMPTON, Va. (Sept. 15, 2023) … The Lady Pirates return to Powhatan Field this weekend to host the Monmouth Hawks on Sunday at 1:00 PM. Monmouth was selected as the conference's preseason favorites to win the league.

A Look at Your Lady Pirates

In their last time out, Hampton suffered a defeat to the Seahawks of UNC Wilmington. The Lady Pirates dominated possession early on throughout the opening minutes. For the first time this season, the Lady Pirates committed fewer fouls than their opponents. However, Hampton would be held scoreless for the first time since the beginning of September.

Through the halfway point of the 2023 campaign, Alexis Deveaux leads the country in total saves. Deveaux also leads the CAA in saves per contest averaging just shy of ten a game. Over half of the Lady Pirates goals have been assisted this season. Mattie Edozie, Keri Geter, and Taylor Oliver have all accounted for HU's assist total.

Scouting the Monmouth Hawks

The Hawks are coached by Kylee Flynn who enters her second season under the helm. Prior to moving to the head coach position Flynn was an assistant for ten years. Throughout her 12-plus years with the program, the Hawks have won Wight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular-season titles and six NCAA Tournament Appearances.

Liza Suydam has been Monmouth's top goal scorer this season. The freshman found the back of the net twice against Fairleigh Dickson. In three straight matches, Suydam has played the full 90 minutes. Only one of the Hawk's goals this season has been assisted. Cassie Coster during the 2023 campaign has been Monmouth's go-to goalie. The Poughquag, N.Y. native, sits third in the conference for saves.
