Hampton Soccer Ends 2024 Campaign With a 2-0 Defeat to Monmouth

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (Oct. 25, 2024) … The Lady Pirates ended the 2024 season with a 2-0 loss to Monmouth. The Hawks got on the board during the 10th minute of the match. While Hampton recorded three shots, the Lady Pirates could not tie it up in the second half. Before the end of the contest, Monmouth stuck again. 

Early on in the match, Coach Scot Vorwold's backline kept the Hawks off the board. Through the first 10 minutes, Avery John faced five shots and made one save. The Coastal Athletic Association's leading scorer Summer Reimet gave Monmouth the lead in at the 10-minute mark. The Hawks were able to find Reimet inside HU's penalty box.

After coinciding the goal, Hampton produced its first shot of the contest. Freshman Ellen Van Caenegem fired toward the Hawks' goalkeeper. The Forney, Texas natives, strike would be blocked by a Monmouth defender. While the Lady Pirates continued to face shots by the Hawks, Hampton stood strong and went into the half only down by a goal. 

Coach Vorwold's side doubled its shot total in the final 45 minutes. Both Mattie Edozie and Nylah Jennings tallied opportunities but the Monmouth goalkeeper stopped the attack. Hampton's goalkeeper John faced 17 shots in the second half. The Rosenfield, Germany native had six saves in the final half and finished the match with 12 saves.

In the closing moments of the contest, the Hawks were able to double its advantage. Monmouth's Liza Suydam's strike was towards the bottom of the goal with her left foot. With less than three minutes remaining neither team's offense could not produce another strike.
