TOWSON, Md. (Nov. 9, 2024) … Towson (5-5, 3-3) scored the game's first 27 points and en route to a 27-10 victory over Hampton (5-5, 2-4) before 4,004 fans at Johnny Unitas Stadium in Towson, Md.
The Towson defense held the Pirate offense in check. Hampton had scored an average of 38.8 points in the previous four games before being slowed down by Towson. Hampton's defense had limited six opponents to 21 or fewer points this season but yielded 27 to the Tigers, all in the first half. Two Hampton interceptions led to 14 Towson points.
Towson's Sean Brown scored the game's first points running around end for 12 yards to put the Tigers ahead 7-0 with 5:39 left in the opening quarter. The score was set up by a 33-yard pass from Brown to Jaceon Doss put the ball inside the Pirate red zone.
On Hampton's next possession, Miles Brodie intercepted a Pirate pass at the 30-yard line and returned it to the Hampton 12. Two plays later, Towson scored on an eight-yard pass from Brown to Carter Runyon to put the Tigers up 14-0 with 3:13 to go in the first period. A Hampton punt from the 17-yard line was partially blocked and traveled 26 yards. A nine-yard run followed by a Hampton pass interference call gave the Tigers a first down at the 14-yard line as the first quarter ended.
On the second play of the second quarter, Towson's Keegan Vaughan booted a 24-yard field goal to put the Tigers ahead 17-0 juts six seconds into the period. After a Hampton drive faltered, Towson got the ball back and moved the ball into Pirate territory before Hampton's Tre Everett ended the threat with an interception at the 29-yard line.

Chris Zellous pass was broken up by Kam Snell and intercepted by Daniel Raymond. Raymond dashed 62-yards for the score with 4:49 left before halftime.
After a failed fourth down conversion attempt by the Pirates, it took just 22 seconds for Towson to score the final points of the first half. The Tigers moved the ball 55 yards in three plays aided by a Hampton roughing the passer penalty to set up Vaughan's 24-yard field goal with one-second left on the clock. The late score boosted the Tiger lead to 27-0 at intermission.
Hampton took the second half kickoff and engineered its first sustained drive of the game. The Pirates moved the ball 72 yards in 18 plays --- 17 running plays --- over 9:53 culminating in a 20-yard field goal by
Brian Csehoski. Neither team was able to move the ball as the third quarter ended.
A blindside tackle by Hampton's
Richard Kramer forced a fumble and
Jahzari Priester recovered the ball at the three-yard line. Hampton was unable to move the ball and Hampton's opted for a 22-yard field goal attempt which hit the upright and bounced away.
Hampton found the endzone with 2:14 left when Zellous ran it in from three yards out to make the score 27-10. The drive covered 86 yards in 12 plays. Towson recovered the on-side kickoff attempt and was able to run out the clock.
Snipes ended the game with 80 yards on 22 carries and Zellous completed 11-of-26, 132 yards and a touchdown. Zellous also rushed for Hampton's touchdown.
Corey Yeoman and Everett each finished with eight tackles to lead the Pirate defense. Hampton finished with 286 yards offense limiting Towson to 198. The Pirates ran 79 plays to just 44 for the Tigers and dominated the time of possession 41:55 to 18:05.
Hampton will hot Richmond on Senior Day on Nov. 16 as part of a Saturday tripleheader. Following the noon football game with the Spiders, the Hampton women's basketball team entertains Norfolk State at 5:00 p.m. and the men play Norfolk State at 8:00 p.m.
