HAMPTON, Va (Feb. 20, 2024) - The Hampton Pirates fell to the Virginia Military Institute Keydets 25-6 on Tuesday.
The home opener saw Virginia Military Institute make the trip down to Hampton, Virginia for the Pirates third contest of the season.
 How It Happened
Offense was slow for the blue and white early as VMI led 10-0 after the first quarter. The Keydets continued their offensive show with five more unanswered goals bringing the score to 15-0. The Pirates were able to find light as
Kai Talley ripped the back of the net giving Hampton its first goal with 2:11 left in the second quarter. Hampton would hold VMI to two more goals before heading into the half down 17-1.
The Pirates would strike quickly, scoring the first goal of the second half at the hands of midfielder
Mamadou Meite making it 17-2 with 14:05 left in the third quarter. Late success would continue for Hampton as midfielder
Craig Williams scored his first goal of the season with just 12 seconds left in the third quarter. Midway into the fourth Meite would find the back of the net again, this time with an assist from
Jonathan Angel giving Meite his second goal of the evening and Angel his second assist of the year.
Sebastian West would add to the mix, scoring with 7:09 left in the fourth quarter, with an assist from
Craig Williams. The Pirates recorded their final goal from
Darius Stanley on an assist from Meite with 6:47 left in the game giving Stanley his second goal of the season.
 The Pirates had a season-high in goals with the help of Meite who led the night with 2 goals and added an assist to the stat sheet along with Freshman
Braeden Lessane winning three ground balls and four face-offs.
