HAMPTON, Va. (Feb. 9, 2024) … Elon (8-15, 4-6) snapped a three-game losing streak and broke out of a scoring slump in defeating Hampton (2-18, 2-8), 69-51, before 699 fans at the Hampton Convocation Center. Hampton's Camryn Hill led all scorers with 19 points and seven rebounds and teammate Cheyenne Talbot chipped in 10 points with five boards. Ajia James scored 17 points and Vanessa Taylor added 12 for the Phoenix.

Hampton struggled on offense before getting untracked in the fourth quarter. But by that time, Elon led 55-32 behind its hot outside shooting. The Phoenix clicked on 44.8 percent of their shots from the field and an impressive 8-of-16 from three-point range.

Talbot scored four points and a three-pointer by Hill gave the Lady Pirates a quick lead to start the game. But the Lady Pirates missed 11 of their first 13 shots and fell behind, 13-7, late in the first quarter. A lay-up by Amyah Reaves with 1:11 left snapped a 3:48 scoreless streak by the Lady Pirates. A pair of three-pointers by the Phoenix late in the first quarter padded the Elon lead to a 16-10 after one quarter.

Elon scored the first six points of the second quarter to boost the lead to 22-10. A trey by Tyra Kennedy sparked a 7-2 run to close to gap to 24-20 midway through the second quarter. But eight straight Elon points made the score 32-20 with 3:22 left. Behind the play of Taylor, who had 11 points in the first half, Elon led, 37-24, at intermission.

Hill led the way for the Lady Pirates in the first half with nine points and four rebounds followed by Talbot, who had eight points and four rebounds. Hampton shot 25 percent from the field and 20 percent from three-point range. Elon's bench chipped in 25 points.

Hill stayed hot with two baskets to start the fourth quarter and the Lady Pirates outscored Elon, 19-14, in the quarter but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit.
