HAMPTON, Va. (March 25, 2024) – The Hampton Pirates fell to the Drexel Dragons 16-5 on Monday afternoon inside of Armstrong Stadium.
The Pirates only allowed four goals in the second half, which is their fewest in one half this season. This was the second match between the two teams and the first at Hampton. Drexel has won both games.
How it Happened
Andre Myers opened the scoring with his first goal of the season less than three minutes into the game to put the Pirates in front 1-0. The Dragons responded with five straight goals to go ahead 5-1.
David Jackson responded, also grabbing his first goal of the season. Senior
Miles Fawcett, who is tied for second on the team in goals, notched his six at the 4:31 mark. Drexel would end the half with three straight goals and lead 12-3.
Hampton was held scoreless in the third period. The Pirate's leading goal scorer,
Darius Stanley, found the back of the net for his 12th goal of the season off a pass from
Canyon Steverson. Steverson is tied for second in assists with two. HU's final goal of the game came from
Steele Downing at 3:59 in the fourth.
Goalkeeper
Dylan Robinson tallied five saves in just over 8:30 minutes. Hampton as a whole recorded 17 saves to Drexel's' 13 and had less turnovers (23-25). Four Pirates earned two caused turnovers and two tallied four ground balls.
