HAMPTON, Va. (April 17, 2024) – The Hampton men's tennis team (8-13) is preparing to compete in the 2024 CAA Men's Tennis Championship. The squad will face Campbell at 3:00 p.m. this Thursday in the first round. All matches will occur at the College of William & Mary in the Mackesy Tennis Center on the Millie West Courts.
The Pirates are coming off a 4-0 victory over their local HBCU rival Norfolk State.
Donte Armbrister and
Emiliano Jorquera along with
Daniel Flynn and
Aryan Arora secured the doubles point. Then, Flynn, Jorquera, and Armbrister won the first three singles contests.
So Far This Season
Jorquera leads the team with a singles record of 14-6. Flynn follows at 11-7 and teammates Armbrister and Arora sit at 10 wins. The doubles pair of Arora and Flynn has produced a 6-1 record, while Jorquera and Armbrister are 6-4.
Scouting Campbell (12-7)
David Johnson has worked in the Campbell tennis program for over 20 years. This is his sixth season as the men's head coach. Big wins have come against North Carolina Central (6-1), Radford (5-2), Coastal Carolina (4-0), and CAA member Charleston (6-1).
Benjamin Maes leads the Camels with a 12-2 record in singles completion and teammate Damien Nezar follows close behind at 11-4. Nezar and Tomas Balazi are 5-0 as a pair.
Campbell leads the series 5-0.
