BALTIMORE, Md. (April 8, 2024) – Both tennis teams dominated Coppin State this afternoon in Baltimore, Md. at the UMBC Tennis Courts. The Lady Pirates won 4-0 and the men 6-1.

Men

Hampton won five singles matches and all three doubles matches.

Emiliano Jorquera and Donte Armbrister beat Harsh Kheterpal and Vansh Kapoor 6-3. They are 3-3 as a pair. Daniel Flynn and Shine Tokas defeated Liam Murtaugh and Rick Nieke 6-1 in what was their first pairing together. Aryan Arora and Benjamin Mwanza took down Tinashe Whata and Ulugbek Abdurakhmonov 6-4. This was Mwanza's first collegiate win.

In singles, Jorquera defeated Kapoor in a thriller that ended 6-7 (6), 6-2, 10-3. His 11-4 record is the best on the team. Flynn won his third match in a row, in a victory over Kheterpal 6-0 and 6-3. Ambrister beat Murtaugh in two sets (6-2) and Arora defeated Kwaku Agyeman in two (6-1). Flynn, Armbrister, and Arora all have eight wins. Tokas took down Nieke for his third win of the season (7-6(5), 6-2).

Women

The Lady Pirates won two doubles and one singles match to claim the victory. Coppin State only had four athletes which led to a doubles match being forfeited and two singles contests (two points).

Mio Kozaki and Lucia Jorrin Fernandez defeated Megan Etienne and Alison Azarak 6-0. This was the first time these two had played together in doubles. Diana Starodubtseva and Masa Mitic also won by a 6-0 score over Kenyange Kaounde and Empress Johnson. The pair is 2-1 as a team. Sofia Sokolova took down Alison Azarak in the only singles match that was completed 6-0, 6-0. She is 7-8 in singles play this season.
