BUFFALO, N.Y. (August 30, 2024) – Hampton's volleyball team was defeated by the Army Black Knights on Friday afternoon in Buffalo, N.Y. in their first game of the Buffalo Invite. Hampton fell 3-0, with the sets ending 25-19, 25-9, and 25-17.
Senior
Ada Bulgur led the Lady Pirates with 11 kills, followed by
Dila Derendeli with five. In her first collegiate game,
Morgan Warren recorded 12 assists.
Shachia Lamb posted three block assists and libero
Kylah Hunter notched nine digs.
The Lady Pirates started off the first set hot with a quick 3-0 lead aided by a block from
Shachia Lamb and Brooklynne Patterson. Hampton jumped out to a 5-1 advantage before Army took the next seven out of eight points to go ahead 7-6. A kill by
Ada Bulgur and an attacking error by Army put Hampton back ahead by one. Both teams went on shorts runs as Hampton remained within a point of Army at 11-10. Army grabbed the next four points and would hold the lead the rest of the set 25-19. Bulgur recorded five kills in the set.
Army started the second set on a 13-1 run. The Lady Pirates scored three points in a row later on in the set, but it ended 25-9.
The third set started with each team taking a point. The Lady Pirates first five points of the set were kills by four different Hampton players. Army led by one point at 7-6 before pulling away (25-17). Five Lady Pirates posted an assist in the set.

Hampton's final two games of the Buffalo Invite will be against Buffalo tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. and then on Sunday in a battle with Oakland at 11:00 a.m. Both games will take place in Alumni Arena in Buffalo, N.Y.
