NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (September 14, 2024) – The Lady Pirates wrapped up the CNU Mock Dual on Saturday at the Eyre Courts in Newport News, Va.
Although this was a mock dual and no team scores were given, each contest consisted of six singles and three doubles matches.
Vs. Christopher Newport
Doubles
In the first doubles match,
Serena Bryan and
Diana Starodubtseva fell against Raine Weis and Sam Robertson 6-3. The second and third match went the Lady Pirates way, as
Masa Mitic and
Meiri Okuwaki defeated Mia Linam and Kylie Schaefer 6-3 and
Jewel Greene and
Melis Sakiroglu took down Lindsey Bergelin and Kendal Chang 7-6 (7-3).
Singles
Okuwaki won her singles match over Weis in three sets.
Serena Bryan beat Robertson quickly in two sets. Mitic battled against Schaefer in a thriller where each set went to a tiebreak. Starodubtseva took down Bergelin in two sets. Sakiroglu fell to Chang and Greene to Erin Gross.
Vs. Longwood
Doubles
Bryan and Starodubtseva recorded another victory against Karina Rizvanova and Alexandra Magia 7-5. Mitic and Okuwaki and Greene and Sakiroglu dropped their matches to Feline van Eijkelenburg and Oriana Izarra (4-6) and Elizaveta Gnilozubova and Hayley Garber (4-6).
Singles
Okuwaki took down van Eijkelenburg in straight sets 6-0, 6-2. Bryan recorded similar success, with a two set victory over Rizvanova (6-3, 7-6 (4)). Mitic won her second straight match in three sets against Izarra (2-6, 7-6 (2) 10-7). Starodubtseva secured the last victory for the Lady Pirates against Magia (6-2, 6-1). Sakiroglu and Greene lost in their matches to Gnilozubova (2-6, 6-2, 10-7) and Alexis Broderick (6-2, 6-1).
