HAMPTON, Va. (September 21, 2024) – The Lady Pirates dropped their match against HBCU rival, North Carolina A&T, on Saturday afternoon in Holland Hall. The sets ended 26-24, 25-9, 25-22.
Brooklynn Patterson led the Lady Pirates in kills with nine.
Shachia Lamb posted seven, and
Dila Derendeli six.
Ida Wiszomirska tallied a career-high in assists at 18. Patterson and Wiszomirska each earned an ace.
Derendeli notched a career-high 11 digs, and Lamb and
Cortni Adams had one ace each.
The first set was a battle. The Aggies jumped out to an early 11-5 lead. The Lady Pirates responded by taking the next five only to trail 11-10. Hampton tied the match at 16 and then took the lead at 17-16. Hampton had two set point opportunities at 24-22, but the Aggies scored the next four straight to take the set 26-24. Eight Lady Pirates recorded a dig in the set.
The Aggies earned a 10-4 advantage in the second set and refused to let the Lady Pirates score back-to-back points throughout the set (25-9). Hampton did not give up in the final set. The Lady Pirates took a lead at 10-7, but fell behind 17-13. The Lady Pirates rattled off four straight to make it a two-point game at 21-19 and inched one point closer at 23-22. The Aggies claimed the final two points (25-22). Lamb tallied seven kills in the set.
