ATLANTA, Ga. (September 22, 2024) – The Lady Pirates finished second at the HBCU National Tennis Championships with 73 points on Saturday evening.

There were 15 HBCU schools battling in the men's competition, and 20 in the women's. The Pirate men placed in fifth with 39 points.

Diana Starodubtseva and Serena Bryan won the Flight A Doubles Championship after taking down Melisa Mekic and Diana Cracium from Alabama State 7-5.

Starodubtseva also won the Flight B Singles Championship after winning five straight singles matches. In the finals, she beat Sydney Brantley (Tenn. St) in a dominating 6-3, 6-0 victory. Bryan grabbed the Flight A Singles Consolation Championship in an 8-2 win over Paris Washington (S. Baton Rouge).

Meiri Okuwaki fell to Alejandra Hildalgo Vega (NCCU) in the Flight A Singles Championship.

On the men's side in the flight A doubles bracket, Aryan Arora and Donte Armbrister fell in the semifinals to Kareem Hakeem and Oliver Saarinen (NCCU) 7-5. Benedict Badza and Marko Stoilovski were defeated by David Jeanne-Grandinot and Gordan Mileusnic (Ala. St) 6-2 in the quarterfinals.

Tadej Mihajlovic and Yanozie Amadike dropped their match in the quarterfinals of flight B to Leo Fortier-Gariepy and Antoni Pankowski (NCCU) 6-3.

Badza dropped his match in the flight A consolation semis to David Leon Mantilla (Alcorn St) 8-4.
