Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Second Half Surge Lifts Campbell Past Hampton 66-55

HAMPTON, Va. (Jan. 9, 2025) … Jasini Sinani scored 21 points and had five assists to lead five Campbell Fighting Camels in double figures as they defeated Hampton 66-55 in a Coastal Athletic Association men's basketball game on Thursday night at the HU Convocation Center.

Hampton (8-8, 1-3) started the game out strong as Tyler Rice drained a three-pointer at the 16:49 mark to take an 8-5 lead. Campbell (7-9, 2-1) answered on a pair of Nolan Dorsey layups to take a 9-8 advantage with 15:03 on the clock.

The Pirates responded with an 8-0 run to take a 16-9 lead as Kyrese Mullen hit a layup off with 10:33 left. Campbell cut the deficit to 16-14 on the heels of a Colby Duggan layup off a Bragi Gudmundsson feed with 8:40 left in the half.

Hampton ripped off an 11-0 run finished by a Wayne Bristol, Jr. three-point play at the 4:36 mark to take a 27-14 lead. That advantage grew to 30-16 following a Richard Goods three-point play at the 2:22 mark.

Campbell closed the half by scoring the last four points and started the second by scoring the first six points with Sinani hitting a layup to trim the lead to 30-26. A Mullen layup gave Hampton a 36-34 lead with 12:18 left, but the Fighting Camels scored the next 10 points to lead 44-36 at the 8:44 mark on a Dorsey three-pointer.

Heading out of the under-eight media timeout the Pirates battled to keep the contest within six point points. Xzaiver Long, Geroge Belae Jr., and Mullen all made shots for Hampton.
Campbell once again jumped out to another double-digit advantage. With the Camels keeping the possession alive a jumper inside the paint made it 53-43 in favor of Campbell. Hampton trailing late had to foul the Camels down the stretch. While Coach Kevin McGeehan's squad only 58 percent from the charity stripe in the final 20 minutes, Campbell made their free throws down the stretch.

Hampton was paced by Beale, Jr. with 15 points, while Mullen added 10. The Pirates held a 34-31 advantage on the boards with Daniel Johnson leading with seven and Bristol, Jr. adding five.

The Pirates are back in action on Saturday, January 11 at 2 p.m. hosting Delaware at the HU Convocation Center.
