Women's Soccer visits Charleston for Thursday tilt

HAMPTON, Va. (Oct. 1, 2025) ... The Hampton women's soccer team heads south this week for a pair of CAA Southern Division matchups starting on Thursday night at Charleston followed by a Sunday afternoon contest at UNCW.

LAST TIME OUT
Hampton enters the weekend swing with a 5-6-1 overall record and an 0-3 mark in league play. The Pirates dropped their third straight 2-0 decision on Sunday this time to the visiting Campbell Camels. Hampton opened league play falling 2-0 at Towson and at Drexel two weeks ago.

Charleston currently sits in second place in the CAA Southern Division with a 6-4-1 overall mark and a 2-1 league record. The Cougars fell to divisional leading UNCW 3-2 on Sunday in Wilmington as Avery Nassata scored 10 minutes into the second half and Faith Slimmer found the back of the net at the end of regulation.

SERIES RECORDS
Hampton never faced Charleston before joining the CAA in 2022. The Pirates are 0-3 against Charleston having dropped a 1-0 to the Cougars on Oct. 17, 2024 at home.

ABOUT HAMPTON
The Pirates are third in the league in goals scored this season with 22. That total is six away from matching the school record for most goals in a season set in 2017.
Hampton's leading goal scorer is Nylah Jennings with four, while Caitlyn Peace and Madisyn Strange are right behind with three apiece.
In assists, Jennings is joined by Jayda Sutton, Makayla Wade and Keri Geter with two each. As a team, Hampton has 13 assists this year which is a school record topping the former mark of 10 set twice in 2022 and 2024.

ABOUT CHARLESTON
The Cougars have four players that have scored four goals apiece in Bella Antonio, Emma Wennar, Avery Nassetta and Faith Slimmer. As a team, Charleston has scored the second most goals in the league with 23.
Wennar is third in the league in shots per game (3.91) and fourth in shots on goal per game (1.64).
Antonio and Slimmer have two game-winning goals apiece to lead the Cougars.
In goal, Ainsley Chunn is fifth in goals against average (1.12) and seventh in save percentage (.727).

SHARE THE WEALTH
The Pirates have had 12 different goal scorers so far this season which is a program record topping the 11 of last season. That total is tied for sixth nationally in number of goal scorers this season.

WADE FROM WAY DOWNTOWN - BANG
With apologies to NBA 3-point calls from Keith Olbermann and Mike Breen, Hampton's Makayla Wade would like to throw her foot into those talks. On consecutive Sunday's, the Compton, Calif. native has blasted 30-yard free kicks into the back of the net as she registered tallies against Delaware State and South Carolina State.

NEXT UP
Hampton is back in action on October 5 at UNCW.
