VILLANOVA, Pa. (Oct. 18, 2025) … No. 14-ranked Villanova (5-2, 4-1) won its 19th consecutive home game dropping Hampton (2-6, 0-4) 56-14 before 2,111 fans at Villanova Stadium. The Wildcats scored seven first half touchdowns on six possessions while winning its fourth consecutive game.
On Villanova's first possession, Hampton had stopped the drive but a roughing the kicker penalty on a field goal attempt which gave Villanova first and goal at the nine-yard line. Villanova scored the game's first points on a one-yard run by quarterback Pat McQuaide with 9:06 left in the opening quarter. The drive covered 61 yards on 10 plays.
After a three-and-out by the Pirates, McQuaide connected with Vince Colby on a 65-yard TD pass on the first play from scrimmage to put the Wildcats ahead 14-0, 8:21 into the contest.
The Pirates were unable to move the ball and Hampton's punt traveled just 16 yards giving the Wildcats the ball at the Hampton 45-yard line. The lead grew to 21-0 after McQuaide's 17-yard scoring pass to Lucas Kopecky with 1:43 to go in the first quarter.
Villanova opened the second quarter with another touchdown. A 34-yard pass from McQuaide to Luke Colella made the score 28-0 with 13:20 to go in the first half.
On their next possession, the Wildcats forced a Hampton fumble. Villanova's Obinna Vu Nwobodo picked up the loose ball and rambled 53 yards for a score to give the Wildcats a 35-0 lead with 10:48 left before halftime.
Hampton was unable to move the ball and Villanova took over at the Hampton 40-yard line. Five plays later, Antonio Johnson hauled in an eight-yard TD pass from McQuaid to make it 42-0 with 5:55 to go before halftime.
A Hampton punt and subsequent Pirate penalty gave the Wildcats the ball inside the red zone. With 1:50 left before intermission, the Wildcats found the end zone again. McQuaide tossed his fifth TD pass of the game, this one a four-yard pass to Sean Brodnik, to up the lead to 49-0 at intermission.
The Wildcats totaled 247 yards and 13 first downs in the first half while holding Hampton to 31 and two first downs. The second-leading rushing team in the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) averaging 184.4 yards per game, Hampton was held to one yard on the ground on 16 carries.
Hampton got on the board with 6:42 left in the third quarter when Davis tossed a three-yard scoring pass to
Gracen Goldsmith.
Brett Starling added the extra point to make the score 49-7 after three quarters.
Hampton drove 65 yards on 16 plays to the 19-yard line before Jayvont Willaims picked off a Pirate pass in the endzone to end the drive. Villanova moved 80 yards in six plays capped by Eli Smith's 15-yard run up-the-middle for the score.
The Pirates responded when Woods zig-zagged his way down the field on a 66-yard TD run with 4:33 to go making the score 56-14. Hampton's drive covered 77 yards on four plays in just 1:47.
In the second half, the Pirates had 270 yards including 176 yards on the ground and 14 first downs while holding Villanova to 148 yards and seven first downs.
Woods finished with 102 yards and a score for the Pirates. Villanova's McQuaid finished 10-of-13 passing for 166 yards and five scores --- all in the first half.
The 56 points by Villanova were the most by a Pirate opponent since Monmouth beat Hampton 61-10 on Oct. 14, 2023.
Hampton dominated time of possession holding a 33:37-26:23 advantage.
Hampton will begin a three-game homestand next week when the Pirates celebrate their 96th Homecoming. On Oct. 25 the Pirates host Monmouth with a 2:00 p.m. kickoff. Hampton has a 57-36-2 (.611) record at Homecoming winning seven of the last 10 events.
