NORFOLK, Va. (Oct. 23, 2025) … The Hampton University women's soccer team closed out the 2025 home schedule on Thursday afternoon with a tough 3-2 loss to Elon at Powhatan Field.
Elon (10-2-4, 4-2-2) got on the board twice in the first half as Gabby Hoschek scored on a free kick just outside the 18-yard box in the 14
th minute to put the Phoenix ahead 1-0.
They doubled their advantage as Talia Fegin found a streaking Ashlee Brehio who pushed her shot into the far corner of the net in the 30
th minute as Elon took a 2-0 lead at 29:55.
Hampton (5-11-1, 0-8-0) cut the deficit in half almost three minutes later as
Shania Harris was fouled inside the penalty area and was awarded a penalty kick. The senior from Jamaica slotted it into the right side of the net for a 2-1 margin at 32:40.
After being outshot 8-4 in the opening 45 minutes, the Pirates came out aggressively in the second putting up six shots and forcing five corner kick chances. Elon had five shots but no corner kick opportunities.
That aggressiveness paid dividends as a corner kick from
Jayda Sutton at 68:45 curled its way into the back of the net to level the match at 2-2.
Elon found the go-ahead goal at 75:19 when Jess Beck was on the receiving end of a touch pass from Hoschek to regain the lead at 3-2.
The two goals for Hampton were the most by the Pirates in a CAA contest in program history and matched the most goals in a conference match in program history tying a two-goal performance against High Point in 2019.
Hampton closes out its season on Sunday with a 1 p.m. kick at William & Mary.
