Women's Basketball Visits Norfolk State For Battle Of The Bay Friday


HAMPTON, Va. (Nov. 20, 2025) … The Hampton University women's basketball team returns to the 757 for a pair of games starting on Friday night when they visit Norfolk State for a 5:30 p.m. start in the Battle of the Bay.

The men's teams will play at approximately 8 p.m. as well inside Joe Echols Hall. Both games will have live stats and streamed on ESPN+.

HAMPTON
The Pirates are back in the 757 after a tough 55-35 loss at Gardner-Webb on Sunday. Hampton was paced by Kiki McElrath with 12 points, six rebounds and three steals. Le'Asia Foreman had seven rebounds to lead the Pirates on the boards, while Taylor Gibson had seven points and five caroms.
McElrath leads the Pirates in scoring at 13.7 points per game, while Gibson joins her in double figures at 10.3 points per contest. On the boards, Aaryn Battle tops the list averaging 5.5 per game, while Gibson is right behind at 5.0 per contest. McElrath has hit eight of Hampton's 18 3-pointers at a 34.8 percent clip to lead, while Olivia Smith has dished out 5.7 assists per game.
As a team, the Pirates are averaging 62.7 points per game and allowing 51.0. On the boards, they hold a slight 37.3-to-35.3 advantage and are hitting 37.3 percent from the field (75-of-201) and allowing opponents to hit 43.4 percent (59-of-136). From 3-point range, Hampton is 18-of-76 for 23.7 percent and the opposition is 13-of-47 for 27.7 percent. Hampton has averaged 14.7 turnovers per game and forced 26 per contest.
In the CAA, Hampton is leading the league in fewest points allowed through games of November 18 allowing 51 points per game. They also lead in turnover margin with a +11.3 and in steals averaging 12.7 per game.

NORFOLK STATE
Norfolk State enters the Battle of the Bay after a tough 55-50 loss at Penn on Tuesday night. NSU has played #12 Ole Miss (L/87-46), #15 Duke (L/83-32) and #16 Iowa State (L/98-52) in their first six games. They have wins over UDC (85-39) and Virginia State (77-53).
Jasha Clinton leads the Spartans in scoring (14.8 ppg), assists (3.3 apg), steals (4.3 spg), and third in rebounding (4.0 rpg). Joining her in double figure scoring is Anjanae Richardson (11.0 ppg) and Da'Brya Clark (10.8 ppg). Carmen Kweti leads in rebounding (6.3 rpg), followed by Cire Worley (4.8 rpg) and Clinton.

PIRATES IN NOVEMBER
In the 51-year history of Hampton University women's basketball, the Pirates are 103-120 in the month of November.
The Pirates are 5-5 all-time on November 21 having lost their last game on this date to James Madison 78-60 in the 2021-22 season in Harrisonburg.

SERIES VS. SPARTA
One of Hampton's longest-running series, the Pirates lead the all-time record 59-39. Norfolk State has won the last three meetings, including last year's 62-53 decision in the Convocation Center. Hampton last defeated Norfolk State in the 2021-22 season at home 56-52. The last four meetings have been decided by an average of nine points.
