Women's Basketball Heads To Puerto Rico Clasico

HAMPTON, Va. (Nov. 26, 2025) … The Hampton University women's basketball team heads to San Juan, Puerto Rico for Thanksgiving weekend as they will participate in the Puerto Rico Clasico at Ruben Rodriguez Coliseum.
At noon on Thanksgiving, Hampton (3-2) will take on Stephen F. Austin (4-1). They'll end their run on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. ET against the University of Buffalo (1-4).

ABOUT HAMPTON
The Pirates start a five-game road swing with the first of two games in the Puerto Rico Clasico facing Stephen F. Austin. Hampton will conclude its tournament experience on Saturday morning facing Buffalo.
Olivia Smith scored a career-high 19 points and Kayla Lezama matched her career-best with 19 as well as Hampton defeated Delaware State 76-59 on Monday night. Aaryn Battle added 14 points and Kiki McElrath chipped in 13 as Hampton rallied from a 10-0 deficit to start the game for the win.
McElrath leads the Pirates in scoring at 12.4 points per game, while Lezama is next at 11.4 points per game. On the boards, Aaryn Battle tops the list averaging 5.0 per game, while Le'Asia Foreman (4.8 rpg), Lezama (4.4 rpg) and Taylor Gibson (4.2 rpg) are right behind at 4.8 per contest.
As a team, the Pirates are averaging 64.2 points per game and allowing 53.4. On the boards, they hold a slight 38.0-to-36.6 advantage per game. From the field they are hitting 37.7 percent (122-of-324) and allowing opponents to hit 39.2 percent (100-of-255). From 3-point range, Hampton is 31-of-114 for 27.2 percent while the opposition is 19-of-80 for 23.8 percent. Hampton has averaged 14.8 turnovers per game and force 23 per contest.
In the CAA, Hampton is leading the league in fewest points allowed through games of November 25 allowing 53.4 points per game. The 53.4 points per game allowed ranks the Pirates 34th nationally, while they are 36th in turnovers forced per game (23.0) and 38th in three-point percentage defense (23.8).

ABOUT STEPHEN F. AUSTIN
Stephen F. Austin, a member of the Southland Conference, comes into the contest with a 4-1 record after dropping a 93-66 decision to Louisiana Tech on Sunday as Key Roseby paced the Lady Jacks with 13 points. In their previous game they knocked off Houston 82-78 on November 17.
Myka Perry leads four in double figures for SFA averaging 14.6 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. Harmanie Dominiguez chips in 14.2 points and 6.0 rebounds per game, while Roseby averages 14 points and a team-best 7.4 rebounds per game. Kaylinn Kemp joins them in double figures averaging 10.4 points and has a team-high 19 assists.

ABOUT BUFFALO
Buffalo takes on Longwood in a Thursday afternoon contest before facing Hampton on Saturday morning.
Buffalo rallied late but fell short in a 64-57 loss to St. Bonaventure at home on Wednesday night. Junior guard Paula Lopez led the Bulls in scoring for the fourth straight game with 13 points to go with four rebounds and five assists. Freshman guard Deana Thompson scored a career-high 11 points and senior guard Anaya Coleman just missed out on double figures with eight points.
As a team, Buffalo leads the MAC and rank in the top 20 nationally in three-point field goal defense (.200). The Bulls also lead the MAC in offensive rebounding (15.0) and are averaging 13 second chance points per contest. UB is also averaging 37.2 total rebounds per game, good for fifth best in the league.

SERIES VS. TOURNAMENT FIELD
This will be the first-ever meeting against Stephen F. Austin and the second all-time against Buffalo. The Bulls defeated Hampton on Dec. 8, 1995 by a 91-45 count in the first season of NCAA D1 basketball for the Pirates.

ON AN ISLAND
This marks the second time in program history that Hampton has played outside the continental United States. The Pirates played in the 2012 Paradise Jam Tournament in the Virgin Islands facing South Carolina, DePaul and Florida Gulf Coast.
