BAYAMON, PUERTO RICO (Nov. 29, 2025) …
Aisha Dabo's putback with six seconds left capped a second half charge as Hampton defeated Buffalo 58-56 in the final game of the Puerto Rico Clasico at Ruben Rodriguez Coliseum on Saturday morning.
Dabo only had four points on the day, but they were big ones as she closed the first half with a jumper to level the game at 31-all. That started a run for the Pirates as they scored the first six points of the third quarter on buckets from
Aaryn Battle,
Kayla Lezama and
Le'Asia Foreman to lead 37-31 with 6:49 left in the third.
Buffalo trimmed the margin to 37-36 after a Janyah Bohannon jumper at the 4:38 mark. Battle responded for the Pirates draining a three-pointer to push the lead back to 40-36 with 1:51 left. The Bulls had a pair of free throws from Anaya Coleman to close out the scoring as they were down 40-38 after three quarters.
In the fourth, Hampton (4-3) used a 7-0 burst as the Pirates pressed the Bulls into three straight turnovers. A layup from Battle and a pair of Lezama buckets including a three-pointer pushed the Pirates to a 48-41 advantage with 6:41 left.
A Battle free throw kept the margin at seven with Hampton leading 49-42 at the 6:13 mark. Buffalo (1-6) went on a 9-3 spark to trim the deficit to 52-51 on a Meg Lucas putback with 3:22 left.
Lezama gave Hampton a three-point lead with a jumper 15 seconds later, but Paula Lopez drained a wing three-pointer at the 2:53 mark to tie the game at 54-all. Lezama pushed Hampton back up 56-54 with a putback jumper with 2:19 left, but again the Bulls didn't quit as Diann Jackson hit a jumper to even the contest at 56 with 1:50 remaining.
On the final play for Hampton, Dabo corralled a rebound off a Battle miss and put it back for the 58-56 advantage with six seconds left. A last second heave from Buffalo fell off the mark for the Hampton win.
In the opening half, Buffalo raced out to a 7-0 lead after a Bohannon layup 81 seconds into the contest. Hampton tied it for the first time at 15-all following a three-pointer from
Olivia Smith with 99 seconds left in the first. A pair of Buffalo buckets started their scoring in the second quarter, but Hampton followed by ripping off a 10-2 run to take its first lead at 27-25 on a Lezama jumper off a Battle feed with 4:01 remaining.
Battle was the leading scorer for Hampton with a career-high 18 points, followed by Lezama with 13. Hampton is back in action on Friday afternoon in Orlando, Florida facing Livingstone in the opening round of the HBCU Invitational at Disney Wide World of Sports at 2 p.m.
