HAMPTON, Va. (Nov. 8, 2025) … Maine (6-4, 5-1) took advantage of its opportunities to post a 35-7 victory over Hampton (2-8, 0-6) at Armstrong Stadium. After starting the season 0-4, the Black Bears have reeled off six consecutive wins.
Setting the stage for the afternoon, Hampton was called for a penalty on the opening kickoff putting the Pirates in an immediate hole. After a three-and-out, a short Hampton punt gave the Black Bears the ball at the 32-yard line. Maine cashed in when Cater Peevey connected with Ty'ee Stephens on a 21-yard touchdown strike to put the Black Bears up 7-0. After another Pirate three-and-out, Maine's Scott Woods returned the punt 48 yards to the Hampton 12. Rashawn Marshall ran it in from one-yard out to make the score 14-0.

Earl Woods III at quarterback. Hampton was able to move the ball and a 41-yard pass from Woods to
Tae'Shaun Johnson put the ball at the Maine nine-yard line. But Maine recovered a Hampton fumble to end the drive.
On the second series for Woods, he helped engineer a nine-play, 56-yard drive as he connected with
Jah'Kei Chavis on a nine-yard scoring pass to cut the deficit to 14-7 at the 12:37 mark of the second quarter.
Maine scored just before halftime when Marshall caught a six-yard pass from Peevey to put the Black Bears ahead 21-7 heading into the locker room.
Although Hampton trailed at intermission, the two teams played on even terms statistically. Maine amassed 128 total yards to Hampton's 125. Woods completed 7-of-8 passes for 82 yards in the half.
In the third quarter, the Pirates seemingly got a break when Hampton's Andre Phillips scooped up a Maine fumble and dashed 50 yards for a TD. But upon further review, the play was called an incomplete pass wiping out the Pirate score. The Black Bears then marched 50 yards for a touchdown when Peevy hit Eli Mahan with a five-yard scoring pass to make the score 28-7. The lead grew to 35-7 when Peevy tossed his fourth TD pass of the day when he found Scott Woods for a 10-yard score in the fourth quarter.
The game pitted Hampton's vaunted running attack against the No.-1 ranked team in the Coastal Athletic Association against the run. In the end, Hampton rushed for 92 yards on 28 totes. Woods came off the bench to complete 9-of-10 passes for 86 yards and a score while adding 21 yards on the ground. Johnson hauled in five passes for 58 yards for the Pirates. Defensively, Harold O'Neal III led all tacklers with 11 stops and two tackles for loss.
It will be Senior Day when the Pirates entertain local rival William & Mary on Nov. 15 at 1 pm at Armstrong Stadium in the final home game of the year.
