Pirates Offense Lifts Hampton Past Northeastern 84-75.

BOSTON, MASS. (Feb. 8, 2025) … The Pirates secured their fourth conference victory of the 2024-25 campaign defeating the Northeastern Huskies 84-75. Hampton shot the ball well this evening against the Northeastern. Coach Ivan Thomas's side shot over 50 percent from the field in both halves. While the Pirates have struggled from the free throw line, HU went 19-for-24 from the charity stripe.

Northeastern won the tip but came up empty on their first possession. Noah Farrakhan got going early for the Pirates scoring HU's first five points. Both George Beale Jr. and Kyrese Mullen hit jumpers outside the paint to help Hampton take a 9-2 lead. The Pirates offense started strong only missing one attempt before the first media timeout.

Hampton's offense continued its hot start shooting 79 percent from the field heading out of the under 12 media timeout. While multiple Pirates were making shots at an efficient rate, Farrakhan was on fire. The Newark, N.J. native finished the first half with 11 points and was 3-for-4 from beyond the arc. The Pirates entered the final minutes of the first frame up 36-25. Northeastern produced a 10-2 run making it a one-possession game. With Mullen's tip-in layup, Hampton finished the half with a five-point lead.

Coming out of the first frame, the Pirates quickly regained their double-digit advantage. Northwestern would bring the game back within six points at the 12:17 mark. Hampton's offense continued to make shots. While HU did not match its first-half shooting percentage, Coach Thomas's side still shot 54 percent from the field in the final 20 minutes.

Heading into the final media timeout, the Pirates led the Huskies 73-63. Down the stretch, Northeastern in the second half was perfect from the charity stripe. The Huskies in the final minute struggled from the free throw line going 2-for-4. Daniel Johnson and Farrakhan helped HU on the offensive end in the final two minutes putting the game out of reach.

Farrakhan led the Pirates in scoring with a season-high 28 points. Four of Hampton's starters finished the game in double figures. The Pirates return to action next Thursday on their home court against Drexel. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. and will be on Monumental Sports Network along with FloCollege.
