AJ Knox and
Sebastian West score three points each as Hampton fell 15-8 to Queens University (NC) in men's lacrosse action on Tuesday afternoon.
Knox recorded two goals and one assist, while West had one goal and two assists.
Jonathan Angel joined Knox with two goals, while
Canyon Steverson,
Reed Shaw and
Jadon Meyers added one apiece. Steverson also chipped in one assist.
Queens (3-6) scored the first two goals before West put up his lone goal of the match to put Hampton on the board down 2-1 with 10:51 remaining in the opening period.
The Royals stretched the margin to 5-1 before Angel put up the first of his two goals with 9:02 left as Hampton (0-9) trailed 5-2. Lawson Jones got a feed from Jack Royer and put Queens ahead 6-2 with 1:41 left in the first period.
That advantage went to 8-2 following an Ethan Scaffidi goal for Queens, but Knox recorded his first one of the match at the 8:53 mark of the first half to bring Hampton to 8-3. The visitors scored the last three goals of the first half to take an 11-3 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Pirates outscored Queens 5-4 as Knox got the ball rolling almost halfway through the period scoring with 7:25 left to trail 11-4. Shaw was on the receiving end of a pass from Steverson for his goal to bring Hampton to 13-5 with 73 seconds remaining in the third period.
Queens opened the fourth scoring twice inside of three minutes to take the advantage to 15-5. West recorded his two assists on the last three goals for Hampton as he connected with Angel and Meyers with Steverson's tally in between. The Meyers goal was with 53 seconds left as Hampton clawed to 15-8.
On the game, Hampton recorded a season high 28 ground balls with
Zion Garcia and
Christian Stringer leading the way with four apiece. The eight goals was the second most in a game for Hampton this year only trailing the nine scored in a 13-9 loss to Iona in February.
Hampton heads to Newark, Delaware next for a Saturday encounter with Delaware at noon.
