Pirates End Regular Season With a Loss to CAA Regular Season Champion Towson

TOWSON, Md. (March 1, 2025) … The Hampton University men's basketball team ended the regular season this evening at TU Arena. Coach Ivan Thomas's squad fell to the Coastal Athletic Association regular season champion Towson Tigers 75-72. The Pirates had the advantage on the offensive glass grabbing 13 offensive rebounds. HU struggled from the free throw line going 5-for-15 from the charity stripe.

Throughout the early opening minutes of the contest, Towson held onto a one-possession advantage. Hampton's early offensive production came from a slow of Pirates. Four different HU student-athletes got in the scoring collum in the first six minutes. Noah Farrakhan gave Hampton its first lead of the night with a three-point jumper off a Towson turnover. With Farrakhan scoring eight straight points, HU entered the under-12 media timeout with the lead 15-12.

Coming out of the stoppage of play the Tigers went on an 11-1 run taking their largest lead of the first half. Farrakhan and George Beale Jr. helped the Pirates produce a dominant stretch scoring nine straight points. For the second consecutive game, Farrakhan tallied 12 points in a half.

Hampton had success scoring second-chance points. In the first 20 minutes alone, HU recorded eight second-chance points. Towson throughout the season had an average of 13 offensive boards. The Pirates limited the Tiger's chances by winning the rebounding battle. A Layup down the stretch gave Towson a three-point advantage  39-36 entering the half.

The Pirates got off to a hot start in the final 20 minutes. In the opening moments of the second half, Hampton went 3-for-5 from beyond the arc. The Pirate's strong shooting helped Coach Thomas's squad regain the lead heading into the under-12 media timeout.

While Towson started to make shots Hampton held onto the advantage built in the first eight minutes of the second half. The Tigers methodically dug into the Pirates lead. Towson would not regain the lead until the 4:51 mark. A Layup by Kyrese Mullen quickly tied the contest back up.

Mullen and Farrakhan made shots down the stretch for Hampton. A late three by the Tigers put Towson up by four with only 12 seconds remaining. However, the Pirates quickly made a three to make it a one-point contest. Hampton forced a turnover and got the ball back. The Pirates with only a second left, made a turnover of their own.
