HAMPTON, Va. (March 5, 2025) … The Hampton University men's and women's tennis teams get to hit the home courts of Nielson-Screen Stadium on Thursday for a non-conference doubleheader.
Hampton will host Norfolk State in a Battle of the Bay showdown at 10 a.m. and then will host Chowan at 3 p.m. This will be the first home matches for both Pirate squads this spring.
ABOUT HAMPTON
The men are 0-5 after falling 7-0 to Longwood last Friday.
Donte Armbrister sports a 3-2 record at No. 1 singles, while
Yanozie Amadike is 2-3 at No. 2. In doubles,
Marko Stoilkovski and
Benedict Badza are 2-3 mainly at No. 2.
The women's team are 1-2 after dropping a tough 4-3 decision at Longwood.
Diana Starodubtseva is 3-0 at No. 1 singles and
Serena Bryan is 2-1 at No. 2, while in doubles
Meiri Okuwaki and
Masa Mitic are 2-1 at the No. 2 spot.
ABOUT NORFOLK STATE
The Spartan men are 4-6 and have lost their last two matches to North Carolina Central (4-3) and Longwood (6-1). Frederick McRae sports a 7-2 mark in singles and Deniz Okyay is right behind at 7-3. In doubles, McRae and Jakub Solarski are 6-1.
On the women's side, the Spartans are 4-4 after a pair of losses to Maryland (4-0) and Longwood (4-3). Yuliya Yurkova is 5-0 to lead in singles and Caroline Nichols is 4-3. In doubles, Yurkova and Sofia Tsitavets lead them with a 4-2 record at No. 1.
ABOUT CHOWAN
The Hawks are 0-2 on the men's side after falling 4-2 at Norfolk State. Marcel Ungerboeck is 2-0 in singles and he is paired with Tadeo Missan are 2-0 at No. 1 doubles.
Chowan's women are 1-3 after falling 4-0 to Norfolk State and defeating Elizabeth City State 5-0.
