HAMPTON, Va. (April 11, 2025) … The Hampton University women's tennis team is scheduled to have two matches at home this weekend as they'll entertain Richmond at 11 a.m. on Saturday and then hit the court at 2 p.m. Sunday for Morgan State.
Inclement weather on Friday and forecast of more on Saturday forced the cancelation of the Richmond match.
The Morgan State match will also be Senior Day as they will recognize
Meiri Okuwaki in a pre-match ceremony at 1:45 p.m.
Hampton (8-8) comes into the weekend after splitting a pair of matches on Wednesday losing to Towson (4-3) and defeating Virginia State (4-0).
Diana Starodubtseva leads the Pirates in singles with an 12-3 mark this spring, with Okuwaki coming in with an 11-3 singles record. In doubles, Starodubtseva and
Serena Bryan are 10-4 at line one, while Okuwaki and
Masa Mitic are 9-5.
Richmond (11-6) enters the match on a six-match winning streak after defeating cross-town rival VCU 4-2 on Wednesday. The Spiders clinched their win by winning a pair of three-set matches from Andrea Campodonico at line two and Abby Lee at line six.
Morgan State (5-13) will head to Hampton after defeating cross-town rival Coppin State 5-2 on Wednesday. That win snapped a six-match losing streak for the Bears.
Hampton will be back in action on Wednesday hosting North Carolina Central at 2 p.m.
