Hampton Softball Drops Game Two to North Carolina A&T

HAMPTON, Va. (April 26, 2025) … The Hampton University softball team fell to North Carolina A&T in six innings, 9-1. The Aggies' offense produced three home runs and 12 hits. Hampton got the bats going in the sixth but only manufactured one run. 

During the top of the first frame, North Carolina A&T jumped out to a 1-0 lead. The Aggies had base runners on first and second after back-to-back walks. With two outs on the board, North Carolina A&T's base knock to the outfield scored the contest's first run. Hampton threatened to score in the bottom half of the frame. With no outs, the Pirates had base runners on first and second. The Aggies got the stanza, recording three consecutive outs. 

Throughout the next two innings, North Carolina A&T increased its advantage to three runs. In the top of the second, a base hit to the outfield drove in a run. The Aggies led off the top of the third with a solo home run to make it 3-0.

North Carolina A&T's offense found its rhythm in the top of the sixth. The Aggies were able to record six hits in the stanza. Two runs came in for North Carolina A&T on a home run to left field. With their third homer of the day, the Aggies jumped out to an 8-0 lead. While the Pirates produced the second out of the frame, another run crossed the plate for North Carolina A&T. 

Hampton got the bats going in the bottom of the sixth. Carmynn Bonner began the frame with a double to left field. With Kylie Hill's first knock of the game, HU had baserunners on first and third. Freshman Jasmine Venson brought in Bonner on a groundout to second base. The Aggies tallied consecutive strikeouts to halt the Pirates' momentum. 

UP NEXT

Hampton concludes the three-game series against North Carolina A&T tomorrow at noon. Sunday's contest will also be senior day.
