HAMPTON, Va. (Aug. 1, 2025) … Head football coach
Trenton Boykin greeted 101 players to Hampton University's first fall practice session. The two-hour Friday morning practice began just after a rain shower cooled temperatures at Armstrong Stadium.
After warm-ups and group sessions, the offense and defense ran through their drills and received instruction from the coaching staff. The session ended with a team meeting before breaking for lunch and afternoon position meetings.
"I'm glad to finally get out on the field," Boykin said at the conclusion of the first practice. Asked how practice went, he responded, "It was the first practice." He then added, "We have to work on some things but I was pleased that our players took the off-season conditioning program seriously and came prepared to work."
Boykin added four coaches to the staff over the summer including defensive tackles coach Raekwon Bethea (formerly of SMU), co-offensive coordinator Ollie Taylor (Delaware State), tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator Delbert Tyler II (Robert Morris) and defensive ends coach
Marc Yellock (Valdosta State).
The Pirates open the 2025 campaign on Aug. 30 when Hampton travels to play at Jackson State. The home opener comes a week later on Sept. 6 when the Pirates host Elizabeth City State at Armstrong Stadium.
