HAMPTON, Va. (Sept. 10, 2025) … The Hampton University volleyball team dropped a midweek contest with American Wednesday night 25-8, 25-12, 25-13 in Holland Hall.
The Eagles jumped out to a blistering start with an early 5-1 lead in the first set. The Pirates began chipping away courtesy of kills by
Jaya Rimm and
Racquel Frazier. American quickly responded with an 11-0 run of their own to take set one handily. In set two Frazier got the scoring started with three early kills to help the Pirates hold a 3-3 tie. American answered, adding a 15-3 run following the hot Pirates start and took a commanding 2-0 lead into the third set.
In the third set,
Katerina Pappa gave Hampton a 1-0 lead with an ace. Following another American run, the Pirates scratched back into the set.
Nia Thomas ripped back-to-back aces to bring the Pirates within five, while Frazier added a pair of kills. The Eagles began to pull away late and eventually took down the Pirates in three-sets. Hampton was led by Frazier's 10 kills, while Rimm added seven of her own.
Morgan Warren racked up 18 assists, and Thomas recorded six digs.

Hampton returns to action over the weekend when they travel to Navy to play in the Navy Invitational. The Pirates will take on Gardner-Webb Saturday, Sept. 13 at 4 p.m., before playing Navy in the nightcap at 7 p.m.
