NORFOLK, Va. (Sept. 10, 2025) … A three-goal flurry from the Hampton Pirates in an 11-minute span of the second half helped propel them to a 3-1 women's soccer win over Virginia State on a dreary Wednesday afternoon.
With the win, Hampton (4-3-1) set a record for the most wins in a season in the 10-year history of the program surpassing the three in 2017 and 2024.
Hampton peppered the goalie tandem of Tianna Roberts and Maya Cajchun to the tune of a 38-7 shot advantage and an 18-4 advantage in shots on goal. Neither team could solve the riddles in the net as no one could score in the first 70+ minutes of the contest.
Virginia State (0-2) broke the ice with the first tally at 74:43 as Morgan Paris dribbled through several defenders and found the back of the net to put the Trojans up 1-0.
The Pirates bounced back quickly and scored 48 seconds later as
Elodie Metho's touch pass found the foot of
Keri Geter who slid one past Cajchun for the equalizer and a 1-1 score.
Hampton pushed the tempo more and was able to find a go-ahead marker as
Mattie Edozie was on the receiving end of a
Makayla Wade feed at 81:06 to take a 2-1 advantage.
Metho recorded her second assist of the day to wrap up the scoring as she connected with
Jayda Sutton off a header to give Sutton a tap-in for a 3-1 lead at 86:40.
The Pirates close out their non-conference schedule hosting South Carolina State on Sunday at 5 p.m. at Powhatan Field.
