HAMPTON, Va. (Sept. 26, 2025) … The Hampton University volleyball team fell in four sets Friday night to Stony Brook. The Pirates took the first set 25-22 in thrilling fashion before dropping the next three to the Seawolves.
The first set featured a back and forth match early with Hampton taking a 4-1 lead courtesy of numerous Seahawks mishaps. Following a Stony Brook run, Lillian Campbell buried home a kill to give Hampton the lead again. After exchanging blows the rest of the way, it was Hampton going on a 4-0 run to close out the set to take the opener. Kylah McNeal recorded two kills over the course of the final four points to help lift Hampton.
In the second set Stony Brook jumped out to an early 12-5 lead, but Hampton wouldn't go away. After back-to-back kills from Campbell, Hampton brought the set within two. The Seawolves regained momentum shortly after the Hampton run, taking set two.
Stony Brook used their momentum from the second set to eventually take down Hampton in the third and fourth set to take match one between the two this weekend. Hampton was led by Katerina Pappa's nine kills, while Racquel Frazier and Campbell added eight and seven respectively. Morgan Warren registered 21 assists on the night, while Pappa and Dila Derendeli led Hampton on defense with 10 and nine digs each. Campbell added a game high four blocks.
