HAMPTON, Va. (Sept. 6, 2025) … The Hampton Pirates women's soccer team is right back in action on Sunday afternoon as they entertain Delaware State in a 4 p.m. kick at Powhatan Field.
This is a rescheduled contest from August 14 when lightning delays of over two hours prevented the season opener from happening.
Hampton continues the homestand after a 6-0 win over Lincoln University (Pa.) on Friday afternoon.
Caitlyn Peace had a brace, while
Katherine Bean-Rosario added a goal and an assist.
Last year against Delaware State, Hampton got goals from
Madisyn Strange,
Ellen Van Caenegem and
Zaria Ascue in a 3-1 win in Norfolk. The Pirates tied Delaware State 1-1 in 2022 to snap a five-game losing skid to the Hornets.

Madisyn Strange and
Nylah Jennings are tied for third in the league with three goals apiece. Those two are also tied for seventh in points per game (1.20).
Jayda Sutton leads the Pirates in assists with two, while Bean-Rosario,
Makayla Wade,
Keri Geter and
Evan-Nichole Whitaker have one each.
Avery John is eighth in the league in saves per game with 3.17 per contest, fourth in goals against average at 1.38 and is second in the league lead for saves in a single game with eight against Howard.
Hampton has the top three shot totals in a game this season in the league with 36 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 35 against Bluefield State and 31 against Chicago State.
ABOUT DELAWARE STATE
The Hornets are 2-3 after dropping a 3-0 decision on Wednesday night at Rider. They have wins over Alabama A&M (1-0) and over Temple (2-1), while falling to Manhattan (2-0), Mt. St. Mary's (4-2) and Rider.
Yazmeen Smith leads Delaware State with two goals and one assist for five points, while Nicole Cargill has two goals for four points. Frederika Kibassa Maliba Ntumba has the other goal scored for the Hornets through five matches.
Johoanna Hornyak has started four of the five matches and has a goals against average of 2.25 with one shutout in net for the Hornets.
CAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Strange became the first Hampton Pirate to earn CAA Offensive Player of the Week honors in program history on Monday as she won the honor after recording the first hat-trick against a Division I opponent in program history at Arkansas-Pine Bluff in a 4-0 win on August 26. She scored all three in the second half and two of those in the span of 33 seconds to open the second half.
WIN #100 AND ALL-TIME WINNINGEST COACH
With the 3-0 win on August 30 against Bluefield State, head coach
Scot Vorwold won the 100th match of his coaching career. Six days later Vorwold became the all-time winningest coach in program history with a 6-0 win over Lincoln (Pa.).
MAKING A STATE-MENT
The Pirates cover a lot of states, literally and naming wise with their non-conference schedule this season. They'll face Bluefield (State), Delaware (State), Chicago (State), Virginia (State), South Carolina (State) and Grambling (State) in non-conference play. They run the table this week with Delaware, Virginia and then South Carolina to finish non-league action.
