HAMPTON, Va. (Jan. 11, 2026) … In a weekend that saw 12 personal bests and four season bests, the Hampton University track and field teams competed in the VCU Rams Invitational in Virginia Beach and the Rod McCravy Memorial at Louisville, Kentucky.
A total of 10 Pirates headed to the Blue Grass state for the Rod McCravy Memorial hosted by the University of Kentucky. Freshman
Jayden Poteat came out with a third-place finish in the 400 meters with a personal best 47.88. That time ranks him 27
th in NCAA at that distance.
A pair of relay teams finished in the top 10 in the 4x400. Poteat,
Garth Naar,
Jason Woods and Austin Anderson ran 3:121.47 to take fifth. While
Daniel Danner,
Ethan Moody,
Khari Barnes and
Rolando Simpson took ninth in 3:15.83.
Danner joined the personal best group with his fifth place showing in the 600 meters running 1:19.42.
In Virginia Beach, the Pirates came away with 11 personal bests in the meet. The women placed six in the top eight of the 300 meters topped by
Brianna Charles who ran a 39.10 to win the event.
In the Women's 500, Hampton went 1-2-3 as
Arriah Gilmer ran 1:15.81 for a personal best to win. Olayinka Yetunde ran 1:16.17 to take second, while
Kylee King ran a 1:16.92 to take third.
Hampton is back in action next weekend at HBCU Challenge in New York City.
