NEW YORK, N.Y. (Jan. 18, 2026) … The Hampton University women's indopor track and field team took second place at the HBCU Showcase Presented by Nike Running on Saturday at the Armory in New York City.
Hampton compiled 128 points to take second in the 18-team event. Howard won the title with 176 points and Norfolk State took third with 49.
The Pirates had a pair of event winners as Emmani Shaw took first place in the high jump with a leap of 1.71m (5-7.25) and Rochele Solmon won the shot put with a toss of 15.05m (49-4.5) which puts her second in the CAA.
Hampton had a pair of athletes take over the top spots in their respective events with their results this weekend. Arriah Gilmer finished third in the 400 meters in 56.38 and Arden Gray in the triple jump also took third with a leap of 12.0 meters (39-4.5) to take the lead in those events in the league.
The team will be back in action January 23-24 at the Liberty Open.
