Soccer Starts New York Swing At Stony Brook Thursday

HAMPTON, Va. (Oct. 7, 2026) … The Hampton University women's soccer team heads to the Big Apple for a pair of contests in New York starting on Thursday evening when they visit Stony Brook for a 6 p.m. start. Then on Sunday, the Pirates will tangle with the Pride of Hostra at 1 p.m.
Both games will be streamed on FloCollege and will have live stats available.
ABOUT HAMPTON (2-9-1, 0-4-0)
- The Pirates close out playing at Powhatan Field in Norfolk on Sunday, Oct. 4 with a 4-1 loss to College of Charleston.
- Nylah Jennings had the lone goal for the Pirates as she corralled a loose ball and found the far left corner of the net at 75:14.
- Jennings leads the team in scoring with three goal and three assists for nine points, while Jayda Sutton has two goals for four points. Anneli Donath joins Caitlyn Peace with a goal each.
- The goal against College of Charleston marked the fourth straight game that Hampton has tallied a goal this year.
- Jackie Jenkins sports a 1.32 goals against average and has 29 saves in nine matches in goal for the Pirates.
ABOUT STONY BROOK (4-2-5, 1-2-1)
- The Seawolves lost 4-0 at Towson on Sunday afternoon.
- Stony Brook finished pre-conference slate with an undefeated mark of 3-0-4 including a draw at UConn (2-2) to start the season. In CAA play, they're 1-2-1 with a win over Monmouth (1-0) and a draw with Campbell (0-0). They also dropped a match at Elon (2-1) along with the loss at Towson.
- Emily Lemke leads Stony Brook in scoring with six goals and an assist for 13 points. Hedvig Helling added three goals and two assists for eight points.
- Jona Hennings has a 1.24 goals against average with 47 saves in all 11 matches.
ABOUT HOFSTRA (3-5-4, 2-0-2)
- Hofstra hosts William & Mary on Thursday night before entertaining the Pirates on October 11.
- The Pride are 2-0-2 in league play with wins over Towson and Northeastern (2-1 each) and draws against Campbell and Elon both by 1-1 counts.
- Amy Meadows leads the Pride in scoring heading into the weekend with four goals and two assists for 10 points. Â Emma Johnson follows her with three goals and one assist for seven points.
- In the net, Lilly Bailey has started all 12 matches with a 1.42 goals against average and 29 saves with one clean sheet.
Stony Brook got three goals from Luciana Setteducate, two of those in a two-minute span of the first half, and took a 6-0 win over Hampton at Stony Brook on Oct. 10, 2024.

JENNINGS MOVING UP CAREER CHARTS
With her three goals this season, Nylah Jennings has moved into second place on the all-time goals scored with 10. She was tied with Michelle Zilberman who scored nine in 2017 before her goal in the loss to College of Charleston. The all-time leader is Sydney Jackson with 12 from 2015-18.
In career points, she is one away from tying Jackson for the career lead as Jennings now has 27 points as a Pirate.
RECORD SETTING BEAT THE BUZZER
Jayda Sutton's blast with five seconds left against South Carolina State on Sept. 30 was the latest in a game that a Pirate has scored in the history of the program. Prior to Sutton's tally, the latest game-winner in Hampton history was in 2017 by Sydney Jackson at 84:24 in a 2-1 win over Mount Olive on Sept. 19, 2017.
JOHN RETURNS AGAINST COUGARS
Goalkeeper Avery John made her return to action in the College of Charleston contest after missing 10 matches with an injury. She played the second half against the Cougars with two saves and one goal allowed in 45 minutes.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN..AND AGAIN
With the trip to New York, the Pirates play their next six matches away from campus as they head to Virginia State, Campbell, Elon and Regent to finish out the month of October. They'll play on campus for the first time this season, due to field renovations at Armstrong Stadium, hosting William & Mary for Senior Day on Nov. 1 at noon.
LATEST NATIONALLY
According to research, Sutton's buzzer-beater at South Carolina State appears to be the among the latest a game-winning goal has been scored in an NCAA Division I women's soccer match this season. UConn defeated Boston University 2-1 on Aug. 23 with a goal as time expired and Michigan State scored with four seconds left to tie Notre Dame 2-2 on Sept. 3. Miami (Fla.) and Vermont each won a game this year with a second left.

Through 12 matches, Nylah Jennings leads with nine points including three goals and a team-best three assists. Jayda Sutton is next with two goals for four points, followed by Anneli Donath with a goal and an assist for three points.
